18" x 18" outdoor pillows

Eighteen inches square is the size outdoor furniture is built around. It fills a patio chair without swallowing it, sits upright against a sofa back instead of slumping, and a pair of them dresses a loveseat without crowding it. If you are replacing pillows and would rather not measure, this is the size to buy.

Every design here is printed into 100% spun polyester on both sides, so the colour is part of the cloth rather than a layer sitting on top of it. UV-resistant, water-resistant and mildew-resistant, with a sewn seam closure and a fill that holds its shape.

How many 18" pillows you need

One on a single chair. Two on a loveseat, either matching or in two designs that share one colour. Three across a wide sofa, where an odd number reads as styled rather than symmetrical. On a deep seat an 18" square can push you forward slightly, and that is the one place a 20" x 14" lumbar does the job better.

Is 18" x 18" the standard outdoor pillow size?

It is the most common size by a distance, which is why most patio chairs and outdoor sofas are proportioned around it. An 18" square is the safe default when you are not sure.

Will an 18" pillow fit my patio chair?

On almost all of them, yes. The seats where it works less well are very deep loungers and low-slung chairs, where a 20" x 14" lumbar supports your back better.

Do I need to buy an insert?

No. These arrive filled and sewn shut. There is no cover to stuff and no zip to rust or catch.

Can I mix 18" squares with a lumbar?

That is the arrangement that looks most finished on a bench or sofa: two squares at the ends with one lumbar centred between them.
