Block Print Outdoor Pillows

Block print outdoor pillows

Block printing is carving a motif into a wood or lino block, inking it and pressing it by hand. What survives in the print is the evidence of that: broken edges, ink that sits heavy in one spot and thin in another, a shape that repeats without ever repeating exactly. It is the reason a block print reads as made rather than manufactured.

All printed into 100% spun polyester on both sides. UV-resistant, water-resistant and mildew-resistant, with a sewn seam closure.

Why it works outdoors

A block print is built from flat shape and hard contrast, with no gradients and no fine detail to lose. That is exactly what survives being seen from four metres away on a patio chair, and it is why this style holds up outdoors where a delicate watercolour does not.

Frequently asked questions

Are these actually hand printed?

The designs are drawn in the block print tradition and then printed directly into the fabric, which is what makes them colourfast and weather-resistant. The look of the hand-cut block is deliberate and carries through to both sides.

What does block print suit?

Natural materials. Rattan, wicker, timber and stone. It also sits comfortably next to boho and coastal pieces, which draw on the same craft tradition.

Will the pattern fade in the sun?

The colour is printed into the fabric rather than onto it, and the polyester is UV-resistant, so it holds up through a full season outdoors.
