Christmas outdoor pillows

The front porch is the first thing anyone sees at Christmas, and it is also the coldest, wettest place in the house. Indoor cushions do not survive December out there. These Christmas pillows do: 100% spun polyester, water-resistant and mildew-resistant, printed on both sides so the design reads from the path however the pillow is turned.

Designs run through pine, holly, berries, pinecones and snowflakes, in deep forest green, cranberry and warm cream, with quieter options in green on cream for a porch that leans understated. Two shapes: an 18" × 18" square and a 20" × 14" Christmas lumbar pillow.

Choosing by colour

Traditional red and green is the safe answer and still the best seller, but it is not the only one. White and cream Christmas pillows sit better against a painted porch and carry on past New Year. Neutral designs in bone and sage read as winter rather than Christmas, so they stay out through January. Blue and silver suits a coastal or modern house that red would fight with. Plaid works in all four palettes and is the pattern most people already associate with the season.

Put them out in early November

Christmas porch decorating peaks in November, not December. A pillow out by the first week of November gets six or seven weeks of use; the same pillow bought mid-December gets barely two.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you order.

Will they survive winter weather?

Rain, frost and damp are fine. The one thing to avoid is leaving a pillow soaked and flat where it cannot dry, so give it airflow after heavy weather.

Can I use these Christmas pillows indoors?

You can, and many people run the same design from the porch into a hallway or sunroom so the decoration reads as one scheme. Worth knowing first: spun polyester made for outdoors has more texture than cotton or velvet, so it feels closer to a garden cushion than a sofa cushion.

Are these covers or complete pillows?

Complete pillows, filled and sewn shut. There is no separate cover to remove, which is what keeps weather out of the seam.

How do I store them in January?

Make sure they are completely dry, then store them somewhere that is not damp. A dry pillow put away properly comes out looking the same next year.
